We don't sell chickens, or eggs for that matter! Operating since 1973, our carefully curated store brings you heritage, and all the latest trends in fashion, surf, streetwear and accessories for Mens, Womens & Kids. As Chook says, "Not every year will be a good year, but stick with it, and don't ever be scared of change". Donna agrees, attributing a good deal of their success to their willingness to keep diversifying and maintaining positive customer relationships. Introducing their online store was a worthwhile investment combined with strong social media campaigns and has increased their reach to a new nationwide customer base. Locals still get first pickings though with some lines available exclusively in-store, so it's first in best dressed! "Waihi is a great little town, we appreciate the years of support and hope for many more - thanks!" says Chook. Hours:

Ebony Hessey has a clear passion for fashion. Opening her first clothing store Glengyle Knitwear back in 1988, she currently has four stores trading as Ebony Boutique, with two Hauraki based locations. Ebony Boutique has been a destination clothing store for Hauraki Plains ladies for over a decade. The newer Paeroa branch wasn't always part of the plan, but more a clever diversification to combat hurdles. Conveniently close to the Ngatea store, with encouragement from Hauraki District Council, a vacancy on Paeroa's main street caught Ebony’s eye as a solution to staying operational while a streetscape project was being completed. An easy trip for their existing regular customers, the new store has been well received. Staff now travel between both the stores and as store assistant Dianne says "We really enjoy the relationships we get to build with our regular customers, and it's always lovely to meet the new faces too. People who are on holiday who stop for an ice cream and a leg stretch, will often pop in too." Hours:

Drawn to Hauraki to be closer to her mum who relocated to Paeroa approximately 8 years ago, the talented Eclectic Studio owner/ creator Rebecca, is enjoying a small town life in Paeroa. As mum of three, she was eager to escape the bustle of the city and the central location of Hauraki was very appealing. With a beautiful backyard which includes the historic Karangahake Gorge and the idyllic Coromandel Peninsula, it was an easy decision to relocate the family almost 12 months ago. Eclectic studio was established four years ago as an Auckland based business which focused on interior spaces and design elements - specialising in restoration and revamps of heirloom style furniture, further complemented by a select range of gorgeous houseplants, floristry and kokedama. Finding her premises in Paeroa was an exciting step, which has been welcomed by the locals. "Neighbouring businesses have been especially supportive and welcoming. It really caught me by surprise and it's made such a difference. Creating window displays and floral arrangements for them has been an honor." Rebecca's favourite thing about being self employed is being able to do more of what she loves everyday. "I work longer hours for sure, but I think that when you love what you do, it doesn't seem so much like hard work. The past year has taught us all some valuable lessons, whether it is to slow down, follow dreams or to try new things." With mothers day on the horizon, Rebecca is busily creating bespoke bouquets and gift hampers, something she is passionate about. "I really care about my customers and love to go out of my way to support life's milestones and flowers are a lovely way to let someone know that you are thinking of them. I get joy from passing on those messages and from being part of these moments." Eclectic Studio also provide a custom interior design consultation, which brings confidence to your home decor decisions. She is partial to the old world charm of restored furniture which can create a bold statement in a modern home, but also loves to explore and appreciate a variety of style choices. Due to rise in popularity of furniture restoration and painting, Rebecca now offers classes where you can learn skills and gain confidence with chalk paint. While painting at the workshop isn't practical (due to furniture size), she demonstrates correct product uses and techniques with opportunity for q & a and product samples to take home. Also included is additional support and advice during your at home restoration project. Make your own kokedama night classes are also a fun way to fill a dreary winter evening. Gather some girlfriends, byo wine and enjoy an evening of nibbles and conversation while creating a kokedama to keep for yourself! Follow along on Facebook at Eclectic Studio for updates on workshops and new stock arrivals, or you can sign up for updates on workshops. Better yet, make mum’s day and pop in store to say hi and find some gifts that mum is sure to love!

Retailer Collaboration is a Win for Ngatea Businesses. Originally from Morrinsville, with over 17 years experience in hardware, Chris and Shelley Spilsbury were drawn to Ngatea 'the Heart of the Hauraki Plains' when an opportunity arose to purchase Ngatea Hammer Hardware & Little RED Hen Giftshop in 2012 . "There were some discussions about the suitability of the location, but we decided that people contact is the biggest part of what we do. If you make those connections and give the service that your customers need no matter where they are, you'll be right. We also don't experience the seasonal business trends that coastal areas experience, it's more stabilised. Business is steady year round. And we've grown to just absolutely love the area we are in." Seven years on, they are well settled into life in the Hauraki District and wanted to find a way to thank all their valued customers. Following discussions with Ngatea Four Square, they decided to expand on plans to create a Shop Ngatea campaign and collaborate with as many local businesses and services in the Ngatea area as possible. Creating something that could work for everyone was really important. Chris says "We wanted to make it easy to 'give back' to our customers. The customer will shop where they want to shop, so let's thank them for choosing to shop in our town. It really was about working together to truly value and thank the community who support us". Chris walked the street and spoke to as many businesses as he could get to, to spread the word and had an incredible 29 businesses eager to be involved. Launching in November 'Shop Ngatea' was a resounding success, with combined entries easily filling a 100L tub over the course of the month. The collective of local businesses contributed a generous $2300 worth of prizes and vouchers which were divided amongst three very lucky prize winners, drawn with the help of Ngatea Primary School students earlier this month. Chris has plans to recreate the campaign next year and will work with The Hauraki Plains team - the goal is to include every local business. Some advice from Chris, if you are considering starting out in business - "Remember why you are there - why you are in business. Know your audience and know your customer. Above all, value them!" Thank you Chris, Shelley and team, we love your community focused thinking and your collaborative efforts, it's just one reason why we "LoveHauraki!" Hours:
