business profile
When four Hauraki locals were given the opportunity to purchase The Log Cabin and the 12 acres of land that surrounds it, they jumped at the chance. Nine years have now passed and co-owners Seugnet & Caroline and Al & Rachel couldn't be happier with the decision.

An authentic log cabin which was built offsite with Douglas fir logs from Rotorua in 1992, transported and reassembled on the land at Waitawheta. Nestled in the scenic and secluded hills a short drive from the Karangahake Gorge, the property has become a popular retreat, accommodating up to 12 guests comfortably.

"For us The Log Cabin is a lot more than just a place to stay, it really does sit in one of the most spectacular areas in our country. We love attracting guests who are like us, passionate about being in nature and want to enjoy the tranquility and full experience of being a bit off the grid."

Running a business with close friends works really well for the team. The key to their success was implementing very clear guidelines for procedures and communication from the beginning. "We all have different strengths that we tap into, we support each other on all levels and are fully committed to our venture. We all work really hard in the business but we also have a whole lot of fun while we are at it!"

The team love having the opportunity share their backyard paradise and all that Hauraki has to offer. "On our website we highlight just a few of the attractions guests can visit, but in reality this area has everything."

They make a point of supporting as many local businesses as they can and have high praise for the support they receive in return. "Thank you all so much! From laundry and lawn services, cleaners to gardeners and electricians to plumbers, you all play a part in helping us maintain everything to provide the best experience to our guests."

The whole team are involved in our community with their individual pursuits and passions. They have previously donated accomodation at The Log Cabin to be raffled by groups and charities raising funds. The next will be to support the Hauraki Waka Ama team who are working really hard to raise funds for a much needed new waka for their fast growing club. They are also long time supporters of CanSurf, a charity that offers respite weekends for young people living with cancer.

As far as job satisfaction goes, the team focus a lot of energy on providing an excellent experience for their visitors, so it's hard to beat the feeling of positive guest reviews. A guest from May 2020 described his experience. "Time stands still at the Log Cabin...A calm peacefulness with the sounds of birds and rustling of leaves blowing in the breeze. A magical place to let go of everything, the hustle and bustle of life. We will treasure our time here."

Growth is in the pipeline, with consents to develop a small eco camping ground at the base of the property. "We are excited as it will give us the chance to not only showcase the peaceful and tranquil area we are in but also add to our vision of sharing ways to be sustainable and environmentally friendly, which is really important to us."

The LoveHauraki Story

In March 2020, the Covid 19 pandemic was impacting many local businesses so the Town Promotion Agencies (Positive Paeroa, GO Waihi and Positively Promoting the Plains), Te Waka, and Hauraki Council collaborated to offer support to local business as LoveHauraki. As the pandemic slowly ended, Hauraki District Council chose to continue to offer support and local connection through the LoveHauraki brand.
